No filter needed. I remember taking this image of this magical human with a tiny magical human inside. Nicole, you are the warmth of the sun, you are the light of the moon, you are the air in my breath and the ground beneath my feet. How lucky I am to witness you in your most natural and powerful state; as a mother. I’m so profoundly grateful to you for the great sacrifice, patience, will and strength to grow, nurture and push this tiny little angel into the world. You inspire me every day to learn and alongside learning from you there is no doubt in my mind that we will be the parents we’ve always dreamed of being. Happy 1st Mother’s Day honey. What a special day, like every day, to spend in the California sun with you and our cub. Love, Baby Daddy aka Ian
Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed have never been shy about showing PDA or expressing their love for each other in public, and Ian took Mother's Day as the perfect opportunity to gush about his wife of three years and the mother of his child. On Sunday, the former Vampire Diaries actor took to Instagram to post a throwback photo that he took of Nikki while nude and pregnant with their daughter, Bodhi Soleil, who was born in July 2017.
"I remember taking this image of this magical human with a tiny magical human inside," Ian captioned the snap. "Nicole, you are the warmth of the sun, you are the light of the moon, you are the air in my breath and the ground beneath my feet. How lucky I am to witness you in your most natural and powerful state; as a mother." He went on to express his gratitude to Nikki for "the great sacrifice, patience, will and strength to grow, nurture and push this tiny little angel into the world."
Nikki's pregnancy wasn't without its fair share of controversy, however; back in September, the couple were criticized after revealing in a podcast interview that Ian "threw out all" of Nikki's birth control pills, which she called "presumptuous." Ian also admitted to having a "six-minute video" of his wife "freaking out" as he flushed the pills down the toilet, adding, "Actually, now thinking about it, I guess I kind of decided [to start a family]." The couple issued an apology "to anyone who has been affected by reproductive coercion" on their respective Twitter accounts days later.
