It's time to start investing in a quality magnifying glass and deerstalker, because Sherlock Holmes 3 is officially a go. Avengers: Infinity War actor Robert Downey Jr. is retiring his Iron Man suit to return as the famed detective, which follows up his appearance in 2011's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which racked up an impressive $545 million at the international box office, and 2009's Sherlock Holmes, which earned Downey Jr. a Golden Globe award.
There's still no word about which of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's mysteries the film will follow, or if Jude Law will come back to play Sherlock Holmes's trusty sidekick, Watson. Since he's signed on to two massive franchises at the moment — Disney's Captain Marvel and Warner Bros.'s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald — Holmes might have to search for someone else to bounce ideas off of. What we do know is that the as-yet-untitled installment in the franchise will hit movie theaters on Christmas Day 2020.
