A docuseries about Adnan Syed, whose story rose to fame through the Serial podcast, is coming to HBO. The Case of Adnan Syed is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg and will trace "how the rush to justice and Syed's conviction in 2000 raised more questions than answers about what happened to Hae Min Lee, underscoring the instability of memory and conflicting eyewitnesses," Entertainment Weekly reports.
The Serial podcast rose to popularity beginning in 2015 by reexamining Syed's Baltimore murder case, which was closed. He was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, and sentenced to life in prison in 2000. The four-hour-long documentary series will feature interviews with Syed, his family, friends of Syed and Lee, and members of the Baltimore law enforcement. Musicians Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will produce the score.
According to a press release, the series has been in production since 2015, and there is no confirmed premiere date yet. Currently, Syed is still in prison and maintains his innocence.
