The Top 14 Wildest Things That Have Happened on Ryan Murphy's 9-1-1

Any fan of Ryan Murphy knows that the man has a gift for creating buzzworthy TV shows. From Nip/Tuck to American Horror Story, Murphy has developed a score of shows that are so wildly different from one another, there's no way to guess where he's going next. One such project of his, that I personally feel is vastly underrated, is his Fox procedural drama 9-1-1, which follows the lives of Los Angeles first responders.

Now in its second season, 9-1-1 brings a lot to the table; it boasts a star-studded cast (that includes Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Aisha Hinds, and Jennifer Love Hewitt), has heartwarming stories about the family you're born with and the family you choose, and delivers lots of the soapy drama that we all know and love. It also features some of the wildest emergencies imaginable, some of which have actually happened. I'm talking rescuing folks from having their heads stuck in a microwave with cement, helping pregnant ladies who fly into labor during yoga, and evicting a seven-foot tapeworm out of a man's nether regions. Yeah, you'll never eat sushi again after that one.

If you won't watch for the highly attractive people giving you This Is Us levels of emotional devastation, watch for the batsh*t crazy situations they have to rescue people from! Come along and let me take you through some of the most jaw-dropping crises featured on 9-1-1. You won't be able to resist checking it out for yourself when you're done.

Seriously, what didn't happen in the first episode?! A woman flushes a baby down the toilet and LAFD Station 118 has to cut a pipe out of the wall of an apartment building and slide the baby out using a ton of lube. The owner of a Burmese python calls for assistance when her pet snake starts hugging her rather enthusiastically. Evan "Buck" Buckley (played by Oliver Stark), a member of LAFD Station 118, ends up decapitating the snake with an axe. A violent burglar attempts to rob a house where a young girl is hiding in the bedroom. When LAPD patrol sergeant Athena Grant (Bassett) pursues him, he flees the scene on a motorcycle. Buck blasts him off his bike by spraying him with a firehose.

The Rest of Season 1

Chimney, another firefighter, ends up with a rebar stuck in his head. While driving down the highway, he swerves to prevent a collision and ends up getting hit from the back by a construction truck. A rebar slides forward, right into his head. He winds up fine in the end, but still. Rebar in the head. A woman kills and dismembers her cheating boyfriend. She kidnaps Athena because she wants to replace his cheating heart with her good one. As in, she literally wants to take Athena's heart and put it in the dead body of her boyfriend. Be careful with those tanning beds! When a guy gets burned by a tanning bed, his burns are so severe that when the paramedics try to perform CPR, his skin peels off. With the paramedics unable to perform CPR, he dies from his injuries.

I've never been a fan of rollercoasters, but this sealed the deal for me. Two friends get on a rollercoaster together but the lap bar holding them down in their seats isn't properly latched. When the ride goes over a hill, one friend goes FLYING off the ride and falls to his death in front of hundreds of people. The ride stalls with the cars hanging upside down and the other friend is left hanging from the lap bar. Buck attempts to urge the man to reach up and grab his safety strap, but he freaks out from all the people watching him below and lets go of the lap bar, falling to his death. The crew is able to save the other riders, but those two deaths were hard to watch. Did I mention the tapeworm? The floor beneath a wedding collapses and the entire party falls into the wreckage below. Apparently the wedding was being held on a makeshift third floor, made with illegal materials that were obviously not strong enough to hold a crowd of that size.

All of Season 2

A military paraphernalia collector winds up accidentally setting off a grenade he was cleaning, because that's just a thing people do, and ends up with a live round of ammo in his leg. When the gang comes through to check him out, they realize the ammo could explode at any moment and that they can't bring him into a hospital. They need to quickly remove the ammo without setting it off, because of course the man is also bleeding out. It's like the most high stakes game of Operation ever played, and luckily everyone makes it out alive. A bodybuilding competitor gets stuck in a "double bicep pose" because he's incredibly dehydrated. He's basically a human charley horse. And of course, his name is actually Charlie. Remember when I mentioned something about folks getting their heads stuck in a microwave with cement? It's a Youtube prank gone wrong that actually happened in real life and was recreated on the show. I have no words for this.

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake rocks Los Angeles and there are emergencies all over the place. The crazy highlights: a rescue of a woman dangling from the window of a skyscraper, saving a man from a burning truck using cement (it comes full circle), and saving an all-star high school basketball player whose leg is trapped under debris that is also holding up a large section of the ceiling. There's a lot, and it goes over two episodes. This bout of craziness actually has to do with several normal 911 calls that take a terrible turn. When Athena and 911 operator Maddie Buckley (Hewitt) save a chef who's been shot in the kitchen of his restaurant, they find out that he tried calling 911 and the operator hung up on him. After some digging, they learn that Maddie's colleague Gloria, a seemingly "perfect" dispatcher at the call center, has been hanging up on emergency calls for ages! After Gloria gets fired, she launches a campaign to mentally torture Maddie for getting her fired. She winds up getting into an car accident while harassing Maddie over the dispatcher line and has a break down. Maddie gets emergency services to rescue her, which is supposed to teach us not to let the awfulness of the world get us down and that there is still good out there. But it also teaches us that when some people snap, they snap.
